50th Kansai Kyudo Tournament - Women's Team Victory!

   (2006/5/21) The 50th Kansai Kyudo (Japanese archery) Tournament, held on the weekend of 20th and 21st May at the Green Arena in Kobe, saw a group victory and a runners-up placing for the Ritsumeikan University women’s teams 132 teams from 52 universities competed - the largest number of teams in the history of the tournament. Each team comprises of three archers. Three teams from RU entered the contest, and all three qualified in the first day’s preliminary round. Sixteen teams in total proceeded on to the final tournament the following day. 

The quarterfinals saw a clash between RU’s B- and C-teams, with the decision resting on the final arrow. A deft bull’s-eye by the leader of B-team won the match.

A- and B-teams knocked out two competent teams from Konan University in the semifinals, resulting in a face off against each other - the first time in the history of the tournament that two teams from the same university have competed against each other in the final. B-team were victorious in that hard fought battle, and in the tournament overall.

This is the fifth time Ritsumeikan University has won the Kansai Kyudo Tournament. The last time was three years ago.

On Sunday, June 26, the 17th Annual National University Kyudo Championship Tournament was held in Tokyo.
The RU Men's Kyudo (Japanese Archery) Team captured first place while the RU Women's Kyudo Team came in second. Fifty-one university teams participated in the men's competition and 46 in the women's. In the finals, the RU men's team defeated Nihon University 9 to 5 to capture their first national victory. 
The women's team lost in the finals to Kinki University. The final score was 5 to 6.
Ritsumeikan Kyudo does well at All-Japan

180 Universities competed in the 50th All-Japan Students' Kyudo Competition from August 4-6, held at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. 
In the men's, Rits took second place in target, as well as "kata"(shado).


Women's Rits took second place in target,in the 48th All-Japan 2000.
